Kristina was 29 when she said her life had changed at a bar counter.
She was on vacation in Cuba with friends and family when she met Sam Juma, 30. According to them, it was love at first sight. They only spent a week together and made a decision many would call crazy: she left her life in Canada and followed him to Uganda.Seven years later, they are still together and share their daily lives with more than 860,000 subscribers on TikTok. But fame also earned them attention they could have done without. Some accuse them of faking their relationship to gain popularity. Others write to Kristina to tell her that Sam is only with her for her money. In real life, she says, some people mistook her for their tour guide, someone asked if he was her lawyer, and waiters served her without even looking at him.
None of this changed their resolve. Both their families support them and just want to see them happy. Kristina says those who insult them only seek attention and that their bond is strong and indestructible. Today, they dream of getting married in Africa, continuing the peaceful life they built there and, one day, opening a school.
